October News!

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Jesse Savath

Hey all, big changes over here at Culver City Salads.

Food Truck – In case some of you weren't aware we also have a food truck now. See below for location and hours. On the truck we offer a number of vegan and gluten-free snacks, stews, deserts, drinks, and of course our three delicious salads (with a whole bunch of new dressings).

Monday - Friday: Please check https://streetfoodapp.com/vancouver/culver-city-salads or our twitter for daily updates

https://twitter.com/Culvercitysalad

Times - 11:15A - 2:45P (sometimes we go a bit later if there are people milling about)

Salads - We have also made some changes to our salads. We have decided on a salad size that is more manageable and streamlined with our truck and retail. It is slightly smaller than our old ones, but definitely enough for a full meal. It is 400-450 grams and is still packed in with as much as we can fit inside. Christina and the team have been working on a number of new salads that are incredible, they still fall within the existing types on the website with new variations of veggies and dressings.

Ordering – We have changed the minimum order to two salads/location/day for delivery. For the first year of operating we wanted to spread the word of our delicious salads and we are very excited about everyone who has been so loyal to us so far, but as we grow we must cover our costs and we want you to encourage those around you to start ordering as well. We ask that you please order two + for your office or one for your lunch and one for dinner, whatever the reason may be we appreciate it. The salad cost is $9.00 with a $1.00 charge for delivery. If you come directly to our truck we knock that dollar off and all of our salads are $9.00.

Retail – We are slowly moving into retail and it is very exciting! Some of you may know us from the Juice Truck, where you can also purchase our salads. We have also started selling our salads at the Betty Café, located at the newly renovated Burrard Hotel at 1100 Burrard. We will keep you posted of any new retail locations we partner with across the city.

If you have any questions please refer to our FAQ page or email us directly [email protected]

Thank you so much,

Jesse and the CCS team

Eating for a season, a reason, and a lifetime

Posted on January 24, 2013 by Jesse Savath

Jokes over. Everyone knows that we need to make a conscious effort to eat more local and seasonal food. We also need to support our local economy, keep our carbon footprint in check, and help preserve farmland. We deserve to eat beautiful, healthy, fresh, nutrient rich and flavorful foods that our bodies crave. Check out getlocalbc.org for a full seasonal food chart plus lots of helpful information. We will continue to source as much produce as local as possible and work on ways to incorporate more of those seasonal gems into our salads. Next time you are at the grocery store please try to choose foods that have been grown as close to home as possible. Or better yet, head on over to the winter farmers market and food truck fest at Nat Bailey Stadium every Saturday until April. Get inspired by the array of tasty delights and maybe even meet the person who grew them.

Welcome To 2013

Posted on January 13, 2013 by Jesse Savath

Hello all and nice to see everyone back in the swing of things. A lot of people are really excited about 2013 and I’m one of them. My name is Jesse Savath and I’m the co-founder of Culver City Salads with Christina Culver, our amazing chef and great human all around.

I am not vegan. Well I wasn’t vegan or maybe I’m going to be vegan or beegan (eats honey) or selectipescibeegan (honey and very selective fish, like I want to know the middle name of the person catching my fish kind of selective). My whole reason for starting CCS with Christina was because I wanted to live a healthier life and I knew that it didn’t take a lot, just a conscious thought and a bit of work. That being said I was always scared to be full blown vegan, could I actually do it? Could I give up bacon? So I started slow, eating a vegan meal a week and soon it became my vegan day of the week and it moved forward from there. It took a long time and now I’m full on doing it, beegan that is. I feel the healthiest I’ve ever felt, I am clear and I have a lot more energy. I want to share with you my experiences in becoming healthier to show you that anyone can do this. Whether it’s taking a Culver City Salad, blending it and drinking it before a crazy workout (which was delicious btw!) or showing you my sad attempts at making delicious vegan recipes that Christina throws my way until I get it right.

Here is my transformation unfolded -

Sincerely,

Jesse / CCS
